My Favourite 26 Self-Care Ideas For Those with Mental Health
Acting on self-care and making yourself a priority by focusing on your own needs first is so important when trying to tackle and take control of your Mental Health. My mind and body often shuts down when I have zero control of my life, in particular anything to do with surprises like presents, strangers talking to me on the street, engagements and so forth. So for me, self-care is fundamental in my survival against BPD in order for me to relax and to be able assess situations in a healthier way. So what I have done is that I’ve compiled a list of 26 self-care ideas I do myself or plan to do in the future, I needed to stress that I’m not an expert so please don’t take my word as the gospel truth, treat more like a suggestion or even inspiration for your fight to stay alive.
- Drink water
- Eat more healthier foods like fruits and vegetables and less fatty and greasy foods (despite how nice and yummy they are – a treat now again is OK though!)
- Have 8 hours sleep every night
- Read a book before bed
- Exercise
- Reach out to someone
- Face Masks
- Go for a walk
- Listen to music
- Journal
- Paint nails
- Watch TV
- Cook your favourite meal
- Try a new hair style
- Shopping
- Block negative people on social media
- Take part in a Yoga / Pilates class
- Listen to a podcast
- Have a night in with friends
- Try something new
- Book a holiday
- Do some painting / drawing
- Colouring books
- Spend time with people you consider family
- Have a pyjama day
- Never be afraid to ask for help
Those are some of my 26 self-care ideas, if you have any others leave a comment below and share the love and support.
Love, Leo x
